@Cyphycus It isn't so much a gimmick as it is a character trait of a person raised as a nun and not been teached about romance. It's like expecting that five year old to know multiplication, it's simply something they haven't learnt yet.

@didipi249 Its more than a lack of knowledge. She has literally been taught that these natural human feelings are wrong. Thats a whole nother level past ignorance or innocence. You know what innocent people do? They fuck. They get all hot and bothered and don't have any good reason so they fuck. She is a part of an order so strict that it denies the very notion of it as sinful. Her religion apparently claims that it is equally sinful for men and women to be lustful. That is shocking and completely beyond most religions of our own world which usually have some sort of sexist bias going on.

Her religion according to her is one where you consider sex a sacred ritual to bring forth new life thats so holy and whatnot that to be lustful or wanting it in a normal circumstance is sinful. She is over zealous and sheltered sure, but her idea's are still clearly super oppressive of sexual natures. She not only has to learn about people but accept or reconcile through denial her religious standing with the truth. I mean he's no nun, he took no vows, she however holds everyone to a standard similar to such a position.

Half expecting her to bring out the lashings.

Even the strictest religions believe enjoyable sexual relations between a husband and a wife is normal even if they are strict as to which sexual acts are allowed. Whatever she believes in seems to go way beyond that when it comes to condemning sex.

I'm probably overanalyzing, but it's often the too pure people that end up becoming the most depraved. Inb4 the hero becomes the Demon King, and she becomes the Demon Queen. It would be weird for the manga to take that sort of dark turn, but it wouldn't be the first time a light hearted manga became dark.

Well I in contrary don't mind purity of our girl. She is younger then him and raised in a church, not knowing any other life. What do you expect? They don't even call it by name - sex, but use a supplementary term. They are just awkward teenagers.

To be honest, this is normal mindset taught in catholic classes at school in my country - Poland. It's of course stupid and nobody is buying it but it exists.

Also, just looking how the plot develops, she actually tries to open to him.
