Year-late response but my guess is that he's eventually gonna find his way "back", with no aftereffects, just like he was watching (or participating in) a movie, maybe even before his dad's death, and change things so he doesn't die

Maybe he'll even tell burger guy about how to go back, but he'll prefer to stay in the past, idk lol
