No, it's not.
I have never read an original novel from Dazai Osamu (but I have a copy of it), based on my assessment of watching the anime version more than 5 years ago, this is more about psychological problems.
This is a self-image, a biography, which is so painful. The author really feels an enormous regret that drives him crazy.

@goronyanpai read it, it's a chef d'oeuvre! highly recommend you!!

I first watched Aoi Bungaku and that arc impressed me greatly so I read the novel, and it's really awesome novel! So excited to read a manga adaptation, and from Itou Junji too! (Osamu Dazai is also my fave from Bungaku Dogs although it barely has any connection with literature) ((too bad there is no Mishima Yukio in BSD, quite a quirky fellah he was))

BTW a lot of japanese classic novelists were greatly influenced by russian literature, expecially Dazai by especially Dostoevsky, so if you had read Dostoevsky and came to liking it you'll probably enjoy Dazai's works too (and vice versa).

@Darthagnon

According to MAL, it's already finished with 24 chapters. We are just waiting on the translation. I hope it's not dropped.

Came here because I found the other adaptation by [Variety Art Works], but that one seems to be dropped by the scanlation team? That version seems to be much more impactful with its drawing style (not sure how to describe it, but more... dreamy? nightmarish?) and more compressed in storytelling, but this Junji Itou version seems fitting too, just in a different way. Anyway I look forward to this scanlation.

After reading the first chapter of JB and Viz's translations, both have really been spot on with the same translation meaning - just a tad bit of minor sentence structures and words chosen to but ultimately convey the same meaning given from the original novel by Osamu Dazai. Now with Viz you can read all 24 chapters (instead of 8 by JB) https://www.viz.com/read/manga/no-longer-human/product/6126 and yes I know to areas where Viz is not available, don't fret as some other publishers should be announcing about licensure of this and others by Ito Junji in your area soon, hopefully.
