I feel your pain. I desperately want actual progress for either of them.

Maybe it's just my own bias, but I find Rihito waaaay more annoying at this point. At least Noa is an entertaining, interesting character. There are plenty of ways you can write a character to be the dry straight-man to contrast her antics but like you said, instead rihito is only ever robotically apathetic or irritated. He's otherwise boring most of the time. He isn't interested in anything or anyone, including Noa a lot of the time.

What annoys me most isn't even that he is boring, it's that he doesn't do anything differently either. Months of hanging out with Noa, and he genuinely can't figure her out at this point? Like... she is not complicated to understand. She wears her heart on her sleeve. Not to downplay her antics, but if rihito just gave Noa the TINIEST of reassurances over her anxieties or offered any sort of empathy or friendliness I think she would be profoundly less anxious and annoying about it.

Plus, and this is the case with way too many manga but still, holy fuck is it just so hard to read about a man that has a comically gorgeous woman throwing herself at him and he is completely unresponsive besides being annoyed like he is about all other human interaction.

I think rihito is way more interesting on the straight-man funny-man duo trope since seemingly everytime they pair up a cutesy cheery girl with a serious person the serious guy folds instantly, "oh she calls me by my name" "oh she wants to play with me" "oh shes so cute why would she hang out with me" is so common at this point its cool to actually see a guy that feels genuinely serious without feeling mean spirited or something of a "softie" feel just a guy that doesnt particularly voice his thoughts, its fun to see him go to the usual tropes of boy meets girl without flustering over every little thing the girl does, hes not even emotionless, the manga even makes a point early that he should voice his thoughts to his friend more often, theres this sense of admiration he had and has for noa, in the flashback chapter and other chapters he constantly is "forced" to voice how much he likes noa's friendship by noa herself, even when he himself "thinks" he has already said so much about liking noa, and even the latest chapters are about him being worried the usual carefree work will suddenly get more serious, his character and noa's are about them having to get out of their comfort zones hanging out with quite literally the complete opposite of them and finding out they enjoy it

Rihito already knows how noa is, the manga makes a point to say that noa will likely never be satisfied, if you get friendly with her she'll later ask you for even more, rihito knows this and he keeps accepting every dumb clingy thing she does, she asked for drinks, then asked for firstname calling, then asked for beers every end of the week, then for movie nights, then a getting shoulder to shoulder while drinking, then a hug, to be "friends", to be "special friends" hell recently she asked to "Reafirm our love" noa even complain-brags about him saying how hes soooo cold and how she wishes it would be like before when he would make an effort to get on her good side WHILE saying how cool/cute he is for doing it anyways

Hes not even unresponsive, the manga spells it out for you that this guy just doesnt voice his thoughts too much, he has flustered many times over things noa did or asked him, and to the readers we can read his thoughts being that he ocationally doesnt know what to say when his clingy notgirlfriend friend is tugging his arm to bring him to a place he never was, or demanding crazy stuff like "be my special friend" ...unless you are asking for some "wooooow shes naked, booba, s-shes hugging me, m-m-my ss-special friend?!?! Thethethethe beach!?!? With TTWO hot gggirls!?! Shes not WakINg uP a-a-and her dress is o-o-open?!? What am i gonna doOoOoOO?????" Kinds of dorky reactions...
