A lot of times authors use physical appearances to also show personality. A couple examples in this, Hanabi is supposed to have a false beauty in her personality. To everyone who deals with her, she's super sweet and nice. In truth she's a deceitful and abusive girl. Yukishiro on the other hand is actually super sweet and nice but only a few people know that. That's why even though she's drawn as beautiful, nobody in class is really going 'Oh look at the pretty girl'. Daidouji has had and shown and ugly personality from the beginning, so why draw her as anything other than ugly.

I've been speed reading this manga since it's been awhile, it is really getting boring despite what's going on right now.

Kinda nitpicking but I notice that these characters are kinda drawn to be not very expressive and interesting. MC's face remains mostly the same throughout the chapters with the 😦 face with one sweat on his cheek. For someone who is good looking, he is very boring to look at

There is some truth to appearances playing a role in how people are treated, but that is mainly for first impressions and the like. When it comes to things like these, it matters a lot less.

Yup. Given the medium, using appearances as a form of messaging is not all that surprising.

It is also why the Yukishiro is being depicted as a girl with glasses, they are supposed to "hide" her beauty, but we also see it through a lens of her supposed to be the "good" kind of girl, so she is beautiful.
