I'm going to personally put several of y'all in a Saw trap where you have to talk to strangers for 8 full hours and not crash out, the way y'all lacking any emotional understanding. Jesus.

Anyways, thanks for the chapters. Glad Hinagi's repenting and trying to run defence for Tohno, also surprised he opened up to her about the trauma like that. Very big step for him, so hopefully he's mulling things over.
I definitely agree that Houjou should be the one to show initiative and reassure Tohno herself, however it is we manage to get there. Here's hoping!

I originally had another post there, but it was mostly just a flippant joke that people ended up reacting badly to because so many here are super invested in the drama of the story while I'm not. I decided I didn't want a ton of constant reaction notifications for those posts anymore because I don't care to keep discussing it, so I edit the post down to nothing because I can't delete it myself. Then later on I responded to another post explaining most of this, but by now it's probably a page or two back and people are likely to miss it.

It was me just saying "never mind"
Cool thankies for the clarification

Bro's PTSD kicked in. :meguuusad:
I get it though. Sometimes though you'd prob think not so this time, your prior experiences or conviction make you reluctant to:aquadrink:

I'll answer this because at least you're not being a jerk for no reason like the other guy was:

I am aware of the intent of the plot and the nature of the characters. I'm not dumb. My original post (which I have deleted because honestly I don't need the constant alerts of the "dumb" or "strike" reactions because people don't like what I had to say when I'm not really interested in continuing the discussion) was just meant to be a silly joke. I'm not here for the trauma-projecting "he's just like me fr" stuff or over-analyzing what is tagged to be a comedy manga. Just because I understand the characterization or plot intent doesn't mean that I need to engage with it on that intense of an emotional level, nor does it make me somehow lesser than others who are viewing their own loneliness or isolation through the lens of Tohno's reaction to Houjou (again, this isn't about you doing anything, just why I'm choosing not to really drag this out). I do have thoughts that would respond to this whole train of thought about fault and Tohno's complicity/culpability in how he gets treated but I'm not interested in sharing them because I really don't want to get sucked in to this whole discussion

Apologies for sorta dumping this on you, it just seemed like maybe the only opportunity I would have to do so and I figured that I could at least give you the courtesy of a reasonable response for not opening with some patronizing BS. Have a good day.
Thanks for your nice answer.
Happily, sometimes the not always fantastic things we read result in more interesting interactions among the readers (although, as with all things human, a lot is uninteresting).
And as you say, what we write, often reflects our own issues, whether they relate to relational mishaps, feelings of being misunderstood, inferiority, or some other thing or things.
The worst reaction is (well ...) to start flame wars. A not fantastic, but better reaction is to shut down. And, depending on preferences, the best might be to discuss the matters at hand, or to kick the discussion a step up, and discuss what is going on, like you.
So thanks again. Meta level can make us lift our eyes, and consider whether we are using our time in the best way.

I'm so fucking sick of this MC's pathetic trauma. I 100% agree with the other girls going after his older brother instead. Everyone's teaming up to "save" MC from his trauma like he's some poor little kid they're trying to cheer up lol. More characters keep getting dragged into this slow-ass rescue mission. At this point I genuinely want FMC to fall for MC's brother—I can't stand this stupid loser MC anymore. What a "huge" trauma lmao... FMC has insane patience, honestly. If it were me I'd just tell him to fuck off already

It's difficult to trust the reassurances of the enemy. We know Houjou isn't, but from Tohno's perspective, she's still a girl and, thus, potentially the enemy.

He needs one of his male friends to reassure him.

It'd probably be super powerful if somehow Houjou got Rei to provide Tohno's contact without her getting Rei's.

I'm genuinely wondering where it will go now.

So far, it has pretty much ignored or downplayed his trauma and played the romcom slop game straight which allowed some progress but ignoring the elephant in the room is pretty retarded, narrative wise. Why even have the trauma in the first place then?

So it inevitably addressed the elephant. Cat is out of the bag now. Once you address it, you can't go back because you can't explain how he is fine with some interactions but not with others. According to the story itself, Houjou is not the first girl to approach him with kindness. She just doesn't have any ulterior motives. But he doesn't know it for sure and can't trust her fully (rightfully) so this chapter, he instinctively lashed out.

So, some sort of progress is inevitable. There is no way to go back to romcom shenanigans now without looking like a tool as a writer.

Some people don't really understand how trauma works. It's not like he's dense or got no balls. Girls who took advantage of him in the past broke him, and something that's broken cannot be easily fixed.

Houjou would be able to fix him, but she should do some extra effort.
But she needs to be given context from somebody, I believe Hasegawa might help him in that regard, seeing how girls have hurt him(including herself), and might want to make amends for causing him his trauma.

That would have to be THE eye-opener for Tohno, he would think "hold up, she approached him for MY contact and not his???"

There's no way he can question her motives after that

I cab understznd the traume that girs only use him..but dude do you really think she is like them???? Rejecting her like that with ni expkanation is ass
What "we" think is immaterial.

The whole point is Tohno cannot reasonably give her the benefit of the doubt because of his collective experience of every other girl who used him to try and get to his brother.

He only has his past experience to draw on, and he's dealt with everything before. His kneejerk reaction to her request is the result.

I don't know what's so hard to understand about that.
