I mean imagine when the girl try to approach you by default you thinking that she want to know you at first without thinking that she have ulterior motive btw he's sulking not because the girl pay attention to his brother. He's sulking because the girl used him to get to his brother that's what upset him throughout the middle school year to present not to mention his parents also praise his brother not him increase his insecure on top of that look at Hinagi Rei's fangirl who at first tried to do what other girl did to Youta but once she know the what he been through she realized how terrible she was for what she did to him and despite she still go after Rei she tried her best to not let other girl to talk to Youta and try her best to stop them
As much as I hate to see Youta hurt, it's a huge waste to NOT use since it pushes the story forward, enables Youta's growth, and develops the romance between the two.
I'm going to keep clearing this up. The Youta has NO problems at home with his brother and his parents. They all love and support each other. Go back and re-read the sports festival and look at their double sided fans and how the two brothers actually talk to each other.
And I still don't get why other people don't get his hangups. Unless some of the readers are too young/immature (no offense) that they don't get it yet.
It's gonna suck for Youta, but I somewhat wish Hojou is playing the realllllyy long game and backstabs him just to go for his brother because some people still don't get why Youta is the way he is with any girl that approaches him.
Similarly to Ore Monogatari!!, I'm hoping his big bro has NOT gotten a GF yet because he knows the girls are using his lil bro.
I think it's a greater sign of immaturity to lack any form of empathy. Or to just lack reading comprehension in general. He was used like a stepping stone for years by girls pretending to care about him just to get closer to his brother. Maybe you've never held any form of sentimentality towards a human being before, but if you open your heart to people time after time just to have it thrown in the trash, it'd be pretty devastating to anyone. Being used isn't a nice feeling, and it isn't 'shallow and immature' to have feelings. It's human. Maybe you just aren't?
I'm sorry, but Houjou looking like she betrayed Youta is very likely to happen if the author is worth their salt. As a fellow author myself (albeit I'm just an amateur) it's such a waste not to use it.
Being 'single-minded' isn't an excuse. It's just a sign that they're selfish assholes only thinking about themselves.
This series is FAR from being mentally or emotionally complicated, and I am honestly baffled that some commenters still don't get why Youta is acting like that, if they are being genuine that is. There's also some guy telling Youta to "get over it".

Hasn't been any cheap drama yet (that I can remember off the top of my head), so no reason to think it'd be injected here.
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if it did happen - we've seen bigger flubs in manga.
