Honestly I find it kinda annoying. How often do you just stare at your friend and think about the past? It just seems like a lazy way to show one person cares about the other. It's no different than one character getting a cold and the other racing over to take care of them, or the girl getting surrounded by a group of guys that try to pick her up.

Probably not done as what it is written in these kind of media, but it is not as unrealistic as it appears there (here). I have an old pal, been long since we met up, and literally the day before yesterday, an indie game trailer came out. A piece of paper with "Kick Me" on it is slapped on the character's face. Now that is kinda familiar, where have I seen that before.

Oh right, it was Adam. Doesn't take long for me to ride the nostalgia trip on how he is a uniquely eccentric character, and the first super alpha build I played back 2021 is wackiness personified. Seeing the trailer leans hard to that side made me feel just a bit proud to know that "I've been there with bro", kinda like early supporter thing.

Thinking about the past is realistic. The staring part is not realistic. If I'm eating with a group of friends, they could be happily engrossed in a conversation that doesn't involve me but they will still notice if I stare at one of them in particular, especially if I'm not eating.
