If I remember correctly, in a quick flashback, she was his first girlfriend in college that broke up with him because she didn't really feel that he loved her I think? He started dating his current girlfriend/fiance sometime after that in college. Author decided to bring back ex college girlfriend back for plot/character development reasons for MC lol
