It would be completely out of character for Akira to be """nice""" and he wasn't malicious at all. Dude has lived his entire life by the skin under his nails. I'm glad he's way more cautious about the people he's with and the amount of information he conveys to these strangers. If he was some generic "friendly" MC he would have died long before the first chapter. If you want him to be more friendly I suggest you read some generic shonen instead.

to be fair, he also encountered some special bullshit right before this, so he's not exactly in a good fuckin mood now is he
like, you thought it'd be relatively ok, but then smuggler who's scarily stronk pops up. You're not happy, but you expect as much to happen. Then, reina who you thought learned a little sense, basically volunteers to be smuggler's hostage. Welp, now you're irritated. Then, maid actually decides to fucking fight you and you have to wear yourself out on her. Man, what a pile of dogshit.

And now, and only now, Kazuya strolls in with his dunce-ass face and his dunce-ass assumptions and immediately pegs you as The Bad GuyTM. That MC limits it to only "being especially dickish" imo is already pretty incredible tolerance, i'd be throwing swears en masse at the fuckhead.

EDIT: to be entirely honest, I feel like, contrary to popular belief, MC's being too nice with katsuya. It's that type, where if you actually tell them to straight up fuck off and pull their head out of their ass you'll get farther in the convo than letting them be stuck up, even if it leads to a fight. So contrary to your conclusion, the problem is he's being a dickhead like usual, but in the wrong direction

Her throat was being vigorously constricted for a pretty decent amount of time, and she seemed barely conscious. Not to mention the high probability of not being able to think clearly enough to make any sort of judgement necessary to do anything besides ramble about how she was at fault, since her dumbassed mistake almost got all three of them killed.

He's right about everything he said, no point in complaining about him being "dickish" if that has literally kept him alive up to this point, and after everything they literally just happened until they pulled up, you really expect him to be nice about shit especially when Katsuya's dumbass had his gun aimed at Akira?

I like that Akira tries to empathize with Yuminas actions and understand her reasoning when she offered herself a replacement hostage.
I wonder if he imagines her being toughened by a rough upbringing to gamble with her life like that, when to the reader it seems more plausible that they lived more privileged lives than Akira, making them have more trust in others, perhaps naively so.

Reina is the only one acting her age here, not being able to resolve a dangerous situation after being choked as a hostage seems fair, especially for a character shown to be haughty and immature. Either way, could the tail end of the situation have been resolved there and then if Reina just got ahold of herself and explained everything at the time? Would Akira have trusted her friends? I don't think so, especially not with Kazuya getting heated as usual.

Wtf were those reinforcements doing? Opening fire on armored units with light arms without taking cover? That's just asking for it. Was the jamming smoke still blocking their reads on them?
