Loser childhood friend heroine is apparently a trope in Japan, here are a couple examples:

Even an Isekai:

It's technically a false trope; what that means is that while it seems to be a trope, it's more because there are several factors.
  1. There are literally only 2 options, so every time the childhood friend loses, it adds to the trope
  2. Often times, the real reason is the main girl winning trope with the childhood friend not being a main character
Just these 2 factors alone mean you'd have more losing childhood friends than winning.

If the childhood friend is the main girl, she'd usually win. If she isn't, she loses. But that's the case for almost any other girl. It's not unique to childhood friends.

Which is why I think it should be considered a false trope. Being a childhood friend is a non-factor in a relationship for winning and losing.
