wouldn't it be easier to just have slaves turn the gears for you rather than use that complicated setup with the liquid aether (probably hard to get) and special leeches (probably hard to keep alive) on a live mage (who probably wants nothing more than to kill the leeches...and whoever shoved them in the barrel...)? although I suppose that setup is lighter weight than at least two sets of burly slaves one set spinning the gears away and the other set(s) resting until it's their turn again...or just, ya know, go pure magi-mechanical and use a different mana fuel without living parts required?

Ahh, when even in fantasy setting Japanese workers are treated like a shit.

I can't tell which part I love more, the turning gears or the tomato/potato kuns

So that's where the tomato costume at the end of chapter 3 came from.

And you call them steamed hams despite the fact that they are obviously grilled?

@Grimmycoffee
even if we haven't seen anyone explicitly stated to be a slave, are trying to tell me that must mean there aren't ANY slaves or prisoners who could be forced to do manual labor instead of finding as many mages as needed to shove in to those barrels? in a pseudo-medieval swords and magic world setting no less? hell, I'm more than half convinced the only reasons a mage would go into such a barrel at all is either they are an irredeemable pervert and a masochist, or a slave who has no choice...or they could be getting paid very VERY well for their time I suppose, but I think it'd take a LOT of money to make one person put up with that, let alone enough people to run factories off of
