I gotra be honest, but I don't really like Takai all that much? I mean, I'm sure she has her own issues for how she is, and she's ok sometimes, but Uehara is a much more enjoyable character right now at least.

The guy crushing on Urehara was the actual leader of the bully group and had his guys kidnap Takai with the intention of gangraping her. Urehara and MC find her in time, he beats the living shit out of the filth, then breaks ties with everyone around him (including the trap) on the pretext that being with him will put them all in danger again. It ends with the girls teaming up and vowing that, this time, they'll be the ones that save him.

In the LN, none of that happens.
