you still want to protect her huh ?
I think the implication is supposed to be that the original owner of that body is still… kinda there. His feelings show through clearer in the WN, but it’s like having a 2nd set of opinions in your mind. It’s not a conscious thought or mind, but a shadow of who he was. Stuff like wanting to protect the girl, act a certain way, or live a particular kind of life.

I dont get why yall hate Kaoru so much, she's one of the reasons this series is uniquely interesting. Imo her character here is beautifully intricate, which is not common for this type of story.

She didn't just blindly loving the MC, she got a complex feeling in regards to the main character. At one hand, for sure she is looking down on the MC, but that not necessarilly without reasons, and she is not depicted as comically hating the MC (like the red-haired villain girl from Shield Hero). But in other hand, she clearly was also portrayed as still having an affection to him, still appreciative and reacting to his current progress for the better positively.

Some of u got mad because she thought he was defeated by the slime again, but i feel like it was in a more of a light-hearted tone. It is not without reasons too that she underestimates him, as she is clueless to the actual situtation the MC is at. Also, afterward you can see her being appreciative of the MC, not just purely disparaging him.

Not to mention, she got her own struggle and purpose, not just tied in with the MC. She is her own character.

Trust me I love the little sister character too, but as of the current chapters Kaoru is a way more appealing character. Her complexity is soo beautiful and what got me hooked to this series.

I would really be disappointed if she got sidelined from the story.

TL;DR Kaoru is an appealingly complex character, and I dont get the hate.

I mean, for me at least, I have yet to be given a reason to like her yet. And it seems to me that they’re just shoving her in telling us she’s maybe going to be important, 9 out of 10 times a character like that just comes off as annoying.

exatly to me she is just the ex of the mc, she clearly loved him in the past, but mc become what she hates, and she doesn't love him anymore, but now to her the mc she loved is strangely returning, but since lack of actual comunication and absence of a trigger to begin the return, she is just confused, plus the game mc is a new love interest, she seems to have the slow blooming love for game mc but at the same time her ex love is returning

tbf the original Buta deserved to be hated and scorned and he not deserve Kaoru at all. The situation are kinda reversed by now though, as most of us think that is Kaoru deserve mc at all? In the end both is not wrong as one try to reedem himself and the other try to mend her relationship.

This story reminds me of the other "pig" story... the big difference is that the girl (in the other story) that was by his side in the beginning cared so much for the mc that it felt fine to carry on interacting with her. This girl makes it seem that she was only caring for him out of "not wanting to upset his family" more than actually caring about him for him. I get his whole character wasnt the best, but the biggest issue she has talked about was his laziness... It feels like their whole relationship before was just for her benefit, rather than them actually caring for each other. This adds unnecessary drama, which is not something I care to see in stories...

Have you read Ankoku Monogatari? It's similar in way.
Despite being justified, the MC is a villain and she's an heroine, in the begining she's hostile towards him and wants to stay away. That creates another problem because every other heroine ends up being better than the OG main heroine.
The little sister is an example of this, MC ends up being saved by her and was forced to man up.
What kind of impact Kaoru does to the MC, basically nothing you can remove her and she simply doesnt affect the MC in any way, he doesnt need her and she doesnt need him there's no chemistry between the two.
MC only interacts with her and E class because he wants to preserve the story and protect his family.

it's worse.
What she loved was not Souta but her ideal figure of a hero, Souta was like that for her always protecting her and giving her emotional support. But as soon as for some reason he got cursed and become fat and lazy she started disliking him. Then he ends up falling in love with another boy who fits her ideal hero figure but because he lost a duel against a lv 13 guy she doesnt seem him in a romantic light anymore.
According to the game she's easy to push if you're strong. Which pass her off as a gold digger.

Honestly from what i've read so far, he actually didnt deserve it, most of his events were him trying to protect Kaoru from some bully or some guy who wanted to molest her and failling to do so. One of those happens during the Class Battles when a villain proposes a match where if class E loses Kaoru and Sakurako will become scullery maids. Souta ends up accepting but loses then player steps in and saves the day. Then class starts hating Souta.
If there's anything his unrequited love was a problem for him, there was no need for him to join the adventurer school when there are other schools as well and doesnt have the same bs and he wanst weak either according to a player he managed to get to a decent level to be a threat to the player.
What i really think and ends up happening in the series is that the more he distances himself from Kaoru the better things happen to him.

I don't hate the FMC, but if MC doesn't have a harem ending, despite the series having a Harem tag, then I'll hate them both.

MOMMY Obaba best girl.
