There's a chapter where Yuuto and Natsumi talk about the type of person that Natsumi would want to have as a romantic partner.

In the chapter, Yuuto says that Natsumi would like a guy who is tall. Natsumi responds that her type is someone who is short who gives it their all. Natsumi asks if there's someone that Yuuto has a crush on and Yuuto (being someone short) responds that he would definitely give it his all. What Yuuto is trying to do is portray himself as someone who is her type and while doing that show that he has interest in her.

There's also the chapter where Yuuto asks Natsumi to go on a date and see the fireworks with him and after he convinces her to go see it with him, she says, "I don't know what he sees in me", signifying she knows about his romantic feelings for her but she agreed to go anyway.

The classmate was rejected and she wouldn't go on a date with him because she had feelings for Futaba, but Natsumi didn't refuse to go on a date with Yuuto even though she still had feelings for Futaba, and by doing that Natsumi created the situation that I had initially described.

No he's not, he's just an attentive reader. Yuuto was in middle school at the beggining of the manga, and many chapters ago he was just entering highschool. First year highschool students are 15 to 16 years old, and quite some time passed since that chapter, so 16 is pretty accurate.
Time passes quite fast in this manga, we already had like 2 or 3 Christmas during its span.

• Futaba's a working adult with working adult responsibilities, and is treated as an adult in a setting with a society much like our own.
• This is not at all like thousand year old lolis, whose social standards are so alien to us they may as well not exist, because there's no such thing as thousand year old lolis in real life.

The things is that, differently from Igarashi, who never saw Natsumi as anything other than a friend, she sees Yuto as someone special. She fells at ease with him, she likes to watch them from a distance, she lets him go into her home(her special place), and much more. Natsumi drama is about the fact that she went from merely finding his tries amusing, to actually developing a emotional bond with him. She may not want or have what it takes to answer his feelings, but she doesn't want him to go away

Putting aside that he's apparently 16-17, if you actually get the sense there's no romance between the two, then there's literally no problem.

The actual weird thing is thinking that a minor can't be casual with an adult (or vice versa), even when it's a given that the adult isn't predatory.
