How much of the operation did he know? Did he just swoop in and co-opt Kate and friends' operation? Or was he in on it the whole time? I just don't want to think somebody leaked it to him, but I can't rule it out.

I don't care if it's the power of friendship, or the power of love but I'd like it if Lou somehow got saved by this revelation. I don't actually feel confident about this, and showing her backstory with Ricky now could be an attempt to make her possible death even more painful than it would be. But Shirley is also inside the cocoon, so maybe that'll interfere with the unification process?

Would fit with the knowledge that changelings fusing with humans was entirely unheard of before the attack on the mirrors house

I think it is a very subtle and powerful thing that even though it seems like he failed, what gets Lou to remember herself is Ricky being "weak and unreliable." When he gives up, cries, and yells "I don't know what to do!" THAT is the thing he needed to say/do to get through to Lou's memories instead of mentioning something specific like Patrick suggested.

Just being himself was enough. Way to go, Ricky.
