You can and the guild master even said as much, but a lot of people in power don't react well to being ignored, even by someone in a superior position.

Better to meet with the king than ignore him and find out he's the pissy type that tries to make your life hell for it; I mean, in this setting, kings are essentially middle management and those guys basically define pissy and petty revenge.

The manga isn't anything too crazy, but I like that they didn't shove modern food or traditional japanese cuisine into a fantasy setting for no reason. It at least makes a bit more sense to have them be creations from another otherworlder who has been there for a while, especially with how powerful Ryoma is getting with every passing day.

Yes and no. Typically visiting dignitaries will visit the local Lord as a courtesy. While not strictly a requirement, the lord would act as host and inquire about their intentions. This might include offering help to accomplish their goals, or helping to make their journey more comfortable.

Turning down such an invitation would either be seen as an intentional slight to the local lord or that the dignitaries don't trust the lord to uphold the rules of hospitality.
