This is honestly pretty poorly written so far, which is really disappointing. With these types of stories, where parents are cartoonishly evil or neglectful, I always wonder why they even bother having children, and usually there's at least some justification. Continuing the illustrious bloodline, inheriting the family business, keeping up appearances, fulfilling the terms of an arranged marriage, whatever.

But these people seem to be workaholics, who apparently had a child for the express purpose of neglecting her, which is really weird. Maybe it'll turn around and give a real good reason, but so far it just reads like a really hamfisted sad backstory for the sake of it.

im sorry i know this is mostly true to life, but at this point it genuinely seems like no adults care about the fact that Pilse's mother abuses her in their every interaction. the literal hero of switzerland only told her to keep that shit at home. like. shit mother is shit, but everyone here is coming out pretty badly by dint of this alone.

Sometimes we need to keep in mind that we're not viewing the story from an omniscient viewpoint, and what we see are heavily subjected to the characters' selective understanding & memory
In this case, this is a recount of Pilse's limited childhood memories, by Stigma, who is known to be an unreliable narrator
The events themselves might not be completely falsified, but taking what he chose to show us at face value and generalizing them into the objective truth, would just be playing into his agenda

I'm not sure even if the mother is secretly the best person ever and working really hard solely for Pilse would change my mind about her. Every time she talks to Pilse it's been in a nasty way. I wish Hexen would given her a good smack or something after seeing her talk like that to her daughter.

That was fun, looking forward to seeing the situation go from bad to worse.

Thanks for the chapter.

"If you can't make yourself useful to others just die"
with a mentality like that I'd request a different nurse if I were one of her patients.

Yeah no I'm sorry but no, that mother isn't some misunderstood character who's simply too dedicated to her job, she's straight up evil, genuinely she has no love for her own biological daughter but apparently everyone treat this as it's not such a big deal, and the dad who's apparently the kindest man ever is obvious to the way his own wife treat his daughter ? I highly doubt it he must see that and the fact that he let it happen really doesn't reflect well with the way the writer is trying to portray him. Not sure what's the attempt here but it's not working except the maid it seem that all the people in Pilse life were just terrible.

Worst of all the dad, who's portrayed as being kind and the one both the mom and Pilse herself seems to love yet this guy just let his wife treat the daughter he apparently love like shit and it's apparently not a problem for him.

from what i see it doesn’t look like the author is trying to make the dad a saint! that is the point of the flashbacks no? i haven’t seen the part were the author is yet trying to make him that good by letting the wife treat their child like that

so let’s see were this is going, if the author will ACTUALLY make excuses for the father
