apart from the regular stuff that is already common in the manga (husband being spineless and wife being turbo-turd), did anyone else find the kids mom really weird for congratulating her about her period? is this normal?

Periods can feel scary and foreign, especially since Ichika didn’t seem to know about it before. I don’t think it’s uncommon for adult women to attempt to comfort young girls and remind them that it’s a healthy developmental process (that should be celebrated because its a growth milestone) so that scene was a nice touch. She really cares about Ichika.

You're not paying attention to the story here. She was saying the fact that they gave him the choice was horrible. She wouldn't have complained if they had just told the kid to throw the cat out. She resents being given free choice, and projects that on to the child.

ALSO don't forget the japanese "shoganai ne" philosophy, aka they believe bad things just can't be helped so might as well tough through all of it.

Tbh, this one philosophy is probably why they have so many societal problems like shut ins, suicides, overwork, normalized cheating, inherited crippling debt (when they have choice not to inherit it btw), and worst of all, dumb, annoying ass MCs that accept and perpetuate the behavior so the next generation can do the same.

It's probably a good reason why Blue Lock is so popular, since it goes against every societal norm and what people are taught to believe in Japan. (BL philosophy = prioritizing yourself, your ego, and your goals over everything else)
