Slavery is inherently evil. Full stop.

Arguing the pragmatism of allowing the violation of basic human rights is just admitting you're too much of a wuss to unilaterally fuck over wealthy slave owners. Even if you have to force compliance. Even if you have to force through social programs that support the child slaves you claim are just better off that way.

So yes, Weiss is a coward. He may be strong but he's rationalizing not using his strength to stop something inherently evil.

I think a great example is Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen. The dude is strong and leverages that strength to outright warp the politics of the world around him. The old figures are fully aware he could butcher them so his voice can cause a lot of unconventional things to occur.

I also don't think Weiss is comparable to Gojo.

Also also - trying to force one's will on a governmental system built of individuals who hold a monopoly of force (literally - nobles are the ones with magic in this setting; Allen's an anomaly as a commoner who can wield it) - and those same individuals have a vested interest in not having their existing way of life disrupted for a litany of reasons (including the function of the country's economy), and you have a situation ripe for mass slaughter of people in open conflict, including the very ones you're claiming to want to liberate.

Doesn't matter how strong you are as an individual. You will cause suffering making a monumental change without proper planning and logistical backup. The protagonist is saying that that is why Allen's idealism is just that. Allen's got no plan, just a slogan. That's great, but it's hollow and impotent.

You're simply expressing the same things Allen did, and the things the protagonist was calling out in regards to Allen.

i say a dude that belive one must find a good alternative is not a coward, and a moron that can only go "bad thing is bad" is one.
otherwise goverment that do bareminimum shit is the most courage being to ever born.
but hey you do you.

imagin seeing women being kill and go "nooo killing is bad" then call dude that try to find weapon cause he didn't want to end up die with women anyway, A COWARD.
Bro clean up your sentences. You're barely understandable.

No, he argued that slavery is ONE way to keep orphans from dying on the streets and/or commit crime.

If Allen has a way to deal with that issue if slavery is abolished, he would have been okay with it. But Allen, naive as he be, only quite literally said "those who can help should do so" but does not provide the How and Why. If I were Weiss I would be pissed too.
Yeah, he's basically calling for people to follow Jesus' example before He even came into existence. There is a religion in that kingdom, but who knows how close that is to Christianity, as well as how many are faithful to it enough to follow its practices. We don't know if making people as someone's property is actually a sin in that kingdom's main religion. But even Jesus, Himself, knew that not all men are so willing to help each other out, whether or not they pick up their cross and follow Him.

Allen was really taking a holier than thou stance when calling out sin, not only ignorant of his own, but also being benefited by the kingdom's slave industry just by attending the academy. Some of its proceeds could be what's keeping that academy standing, as well as many other businesses and establishments in the kingdom. Something needs take its place if he wants slavery to be abolished.

"weiss didn't reform entire society and civilization so he is coward and bad man"
let ignore the retardation expectation that would destroy the enjoyment of the story. Weiss entire point is litterally what people are complain about.
you don't just up and ban shit, you need a must more complicate reform to remove the need of it in the first place.
like who the fuck you preach to here brother, i need help here my illiterate brother in crist.

I just don’t think the author has it in them to introduce slavery and engage with the topic while keeping the comedic tone without it being really weird/stupid.
I dunno, Milk just falling asleep in the middle of Weiss' diatribe about Allen's antics was sorta amusing in how much she just doesn't care about him in so many ways.

so mc is fully supporting slavery, expresses social darwinistic views about poor people "overbreeding" and is full supporter of tyranny of inheritable nobility? lol i quess its refreshing for story to be so open about characters disgusting views.

And before someone writes reply about "pragmatism" or "blind idealism", its not like he is offering any answers to make the world better either. rather hes just defending institution that he, as a noble, benefits from making him no different from countless slavers in usa southern states that also defended slavery as "necessary evil" in order to, as weiss said, "control (lesser/other) people".

Saying "we must end slavery" without offering practical strategy to achieve it is still much better than saying "we must preserve slavery". especially as simply by expressing that view openly you take a small step in influencing views of society. argument about practicality or pragmatism might have some weight to them if mc also argued for some gradual betterment of treatment of slaves.

"We need to make proper plans and have logistical backup" is just complacency pretending to be pragmatic. Because Weiss is saying all that...then ending his thoughts there and leaving it to someone else to figure out.

At that point its like a group assignment nobody is working on because they assume someone else will figure it out.

Weiss COULD be a force of radical change if he wanted to be, bro is literally the GOAT milk sensei recognizes, but his stance is instead just making blanket statements about how those orphan kids need slavery to not commit crimes and die in a gutter, so its fine lmao.

Our boy getting his revenge on milk by yapping her to sleep then keeping her awake
So either our boi is really strongly pro slavery or the original is having way more influence on him lately.
In a medieval society criminals would be sent to the mines, production surplus wasn't to the point you could have an unproductive underclass locked away in prisons but still provided for. Even now in prisons prisoners will work for the state.
These are not unpopular policies as tax payers don't want to pay for criminals to live.

Weiss is a child.
A teenager, if you want to be pedantic.

If anything, his not going on a one-person crusade to overthrow the existing system of government is the most realistic stance he took this chapter.

I get what you're going for, and I agree with the sentiment and the higher ideals. But it doesn't matter what Milk or whoever sees in him, he's not fixing this shit himself, or doing it anytime soon.

I'm also still trying to figure out if that was the protagonist, or Weiss, who was "wearing the body" during that flashback.
But in any case, I don't see this as productive any longer, so I'll leave it off here and not be checking back after this.

at everyone who says stuff like "well you can't expect Weiss to change the entire system, he's saying that because it's hard to overturn it"
Even if he hasn't the power to overturn it, he can still express the opinion that slavery is evil. He could then explain why it's hard to abolish in the current economic situation or whatever.

But no, he chose to say "It's not necessarily evil". I just hope that we as the readers aren't supposed to support his views there.

Slavery isn't considered wrong within the context of his world, which I agree with. Wars occur, leading to women, elders, and children being enslaved. For them, this is the best option, as they receive food and shelter during times when normal families can't always provide these.

It's refreshing to see a writer who truly understands how things work.

Fair enough, it was a pleasure having discourse. I too, wonder how in control evil Weiss is. The intrigue is hooking me. I wish this series could come out faster 😩
