I find it kinda annoying that I tend to be more attracted to side characters like those, instead of the main characters, because the stories are almost never about them.

Like, this time, I'm kinda digging the Kuchisake-onna (my guess).





But she's only shown thrice and had done nothing to be able to judge her character by.

Also, my guess for Squirrel-girl is that she's the type to get serious only when engaging in her speciality, kinda like the Silent Witch.

Law of conservation of detail, if she's got that much effort into her appearance, she will be important later.

In one manga I am working on, there is an important character who doesn't get involved into the plot until 200 or so chapters into the book, but she's there in the background all over the place in the earlier chapters the Manga has shown. I only know that because I read ahead in the source book.

I could see this entire series as a video game now. A bunch of mini game challenges based on quirks of your newly introduced classmates that has no set rules. Everyone's personalities representing the games within games.

What about that interaction makes you think she's throwing him under the bus? Its clear she knows he out classes all of them in combat so the easiest way for her to make him king is to make them fight him instead of them trying other ways to take the title.
