Aesir continues slowly realizing that perhaps, just maybe, The High Elves from his homeland stayed there for a reason. I have a feeling they won't be nearly as grumpy with him as he thinks they will. Though maybe they'll deny him entry outright if he tries returning?

Aesir developing feelings for Irena? Perhaps, perhaps. Though I think it's more likely he's just viewing her as the singular constant of his life. Even his adopted kid isn't going to live as long as the two of them.

Concerning that Aesir has on multiple occasions given serious thought to genocide or mass murder in order to drive a point home.

That only happens if they can do the blockade in the first place. They would need a force equal to or more than what is currently stationed at the Zweeden capital. Also, any invading force with only inferior numbers concentrating their attack on one spot risks being encircled by the Zweeden (or any of their allied forces if they exists).

Also, a capital city of that size must have some enormous stockpile of food, weapons, supplies and manpower, especially since they're mobilizing for war already. The invading force needs to be powerful enough not just to capture the choke point, but also have the capability hold that position for many months for any blockade to take effect. If it takes too long for the blockade to take effect, it will only give Zweeden plenty of time to explore other options, like calling for reinforcements from an allied nation for example.

When it comes to warfare, the ones on fortified positions usually have the home field advantage.
It's still much easier to block one entry point than many, if it's true for the defender, it's true for the attacker as well.
They don't need to capture anything, just build walls around the entry, look up how Caesar did it at Alesia and he actually had to encircle the whole city. The length of the siege then would indeed depend on the supplies inside the city, but they will run out eventually, there have been sieges that lasted years in human history and this city doesn't look like it has fields to grow crops inside its walls and a city has a lot of mouths to feed that won't do any fighting at all.

Surely almost completely enclosing a sprawling kingdom with mountains won't cause unintended environmental consequences
It's a large-ish city, not the entire nation, and that ring of mountains is more like crater walls or cliffs.
If anything the ring-wall contains the city, and prevents "environmental consequences" from it expanding, as cities do.

As peeps have pointed out, they could actually use the ring of rock as a natural defense, in time.

As other peeps have pointed out, the object of the exercise is to show the uppity humans what "the elves" are capable of, with the hint that the next set of rocks growing will be inside the city. Possibly quite targeted growing of rocks..
Given that it looks like the Palace is smack in the center, it's very much possible to take out the bigwigs by raising the center "a bit", leaving the rest of the city pretty much intact and functional.

Sweden is covered by rocks on the west side (Norway) and Lakes in the east (Finland). Real life Sweden probably angered a high elf too.
Or it was the ice age and glaciers, I dunno. High elves are more likely though.

Gods. I've read most of the light novels, having brute forced my way using my beginner Japanese knowledge and a shit ton of MTL. There's a lot I wish to say that'd be spoilers, but in essence, some of you got some things right, but maybe a few more dozen chapters down the road. All I can say is that Irena is definitely a top-tier waifu, and what some people wish Aesir was, Wynn turns out to be. It's agonizing how slowly this manga updates, since it's doing a great job of actually adapting the source material.

I'd like to see an Irena romance and children we can follow throughout the years. But he has Wynn so he'll probably be biologically childless.

Since he will be extremely young in there eyes. Especially the elders, i think they will look at him as a child that is a little bit lost and energetic or something like that. I really doubt they will be hard on him. For the phoenix thing i think the will set up a trail for him of some sort.

My man just casually left a note on their doorstep saying "I can take you off the map at any time".

How the hell did humans kidnap elves and force them into breeding?
Every elf aside the half bloods from humans raping them is a true elf that can ask the help of spirits, or at leats hear them and know where not to go.
The only explanation is a large majority of elves being super fine living a life in the forest without interaction with the external world and counting on the barrier, neglecting training in every way, then some strayed outside for a stroll and got kidnapped, but again, spirits.
I have to re-read the story start, is bugging me, MC is special for his training but every elf shoudl be able to ask for the spirits help, that is in the best of cases overkill.

Elves can see spirits, but very few of them can borrow spirit's power. It also depends on the spirits' mood, as they generally don't care about the lives of mortal races except a few individual they favor, so there's no automatic alarm like what Acer has.
