I actually have a better impression of moe-chan girl. the way she knows otaku culture is kind of surprising. She can be rude but she can relate with otaku-ness so kind of surprisingly open-minded huh.

other than that yeah, Yamada's trying so hard to get his Line. Pickup-pai would've been envious at this! also why did it end there!? what a cliffhanger!

Sadly Moe got Yamada's first Line boy friend and first Nickname calling with Ichikawa huh? Lol If only Yamada can get over the fact of hiding her honesty

The way he has a hard time realizing what is going on is so realistic. It doesn't feel like a regular dense MC, but a legit dense person. Great writing
The great thing about ichikawa is he's really great when he's not dense. But so stupid when he's dense, feels really realistic like you've just said. I can't say I've read a manga that has an MC like him (granted I've read A LOT of romcoms but most of them are shitty and new so maybe I just didn't find a similar one)

Some people need to realize just because you read one of those happy-go-lucky manga doesn't give them the ability to know if someone likes them or not

He's not dense, it's just that he's well aware of his place: an unattractive guy which is considered creepy and dull by almost everyone. So instead of thinking she's into him he would just brush it off...
I've been there too, no matter how obvious a girl makes it, I would tell myself that she's not that into me and i'm just being delusional...
The only difference here is that I might be delusional after all, while its a fact that Yamada is fucking head over heels for him lol
It's not being dense, it's the "they are just being nice, can't possibly be anything more than that" mentality that is very hard to ignore. Especially for someone who has never - from their perspective - received positive attention from opposite sex.

I think that the very first thought from Ichikawa about Yamada asking about LINE – "She's making fun of me...!!" – suggests that it's not his denseness, which is causing the problem, but his insecurities. He just can't imagine a world, in which someone is genuinely interested in becoming closer to him. It takes the whole chapter for Ichikawa to realize Yamada's intentions, because by the end he gets some evidence and starts putting the pieces of the puzzle together.

We, as external observers, have a lot more information about Yamada. Our view is also not filtered by Ichikawa's chūnibyō tendencies (aka "eighth-grader syndrome") and his "hubbed person" feelings (see translator's note on page 3).

Later chapters explore the root of his insecurities, and he has some character development noticing and realizing them. There is even a moment when he explicitly discusses them with Yamada.

Side note: This analysis is obviously helped by me having more information from the later chapters. I don't remember what I thought about this chapter on my first read.

I remember how I got annoyed by Yamada in the first chapter.

It's amazing how the author managed to do a 180 with my opinions.
Behavior of Yamada in the first chapter actually has an interesting explanation in "Vol.7 Special Edition Extra - Episode Zero" (chapter 99.2 on MangaDex).
Link to the start of "Serious face", which is part of "Episode Zero": https://mangadex.org/chapter/e583feba-6e15-45cd-a93e-a30e9854ebbc/35
P.S. Shout out to Sam (aka sampuca) on BokuYaba Discord for helping me find it.
