This makes very little to no sense to me. It'd make much more sense to invest in local talent, and get percentages from their success -- rather than just become a jack of all trades.
For Weed, time itself is money. Any living breathing moment he does not spend on completing quests and selling items, he is losing money. The turnover from his time invested in learning these basic, beginner skills -- and the time he can put in hunting or creating sculptures (which can surely sell to NPCs for a shit ton of money) -- is laughable. And the very idea that a crowd will form around him, and be taken aback by his beginner-level proficiency, is absurd.

Nothing about this makes sense.

The best experience while playing mmorpgs is increasing the production skills.

@Solipsist You've probably missed it but, the game is still in it's early stages, of course people would be interested in someone who's doing well. Also most people who chose a production class regretted it, so there was no talent lying in the classes. However Weed has put in effort and time. Sure it's less profit for now, but in the long run, it will be worth it.

Even in that case, it's unlikely.
Considering the time frame between when Weed has started playing the game (which was, what, year+ of delay?), the time-lag between reality, and the amount of time Weed has spent adventuring...
It's insanely unlikely that anything Weed can create, nobody else was able to put forth on the market. And if it's so profitable, as easily displayed by Weed, it's unimaginable to think that given the time-frame, nobody else tried the same. That just makes it seem like if Weed is not in the game, it stops existing.

Ugg I hate these VRMMO stories where the MC is unrestricted in what skills they can learn. They have the MC just load up with no consequence and become super OP, but then never explain why no one else has done so.
When I played WoW I had Alts with all the production/gather classes so I could make whatever items were selling for the most profit on the AH. With him 7+ years behind I can't imagine there aren't loads of high level players with production skills maxed out.

The NPC crowds lol. Imagine people gathering around a beginner practicing scales and being amazed. Keeps reminding me of this.

@ShadeLights did you forget that bit with the paladin asking him to make an item to propose with? He said he's been playing for 7 years with he wife-to-be.
@Solipsist ya he spent 1 year preparing to play the game lol.

That is not how you forge anything out of steel. It would’ve taken like fifteen minutes tops to watch videos or read articles on the basic order of operations to illustrate them correctly. Bleggggh

@AMetroid
Your comment is old and you may already figured it out but the game is not 7 years old.
The man who requested the proposal gift was talking about playing for 7 years with his girlfriend. He didn't specify royal road. Also I don't remember the chapter but i'm sure someone mentioned that the game is 1yo or so.

I did a search of the online novel translation and found in Book 1 ch5
"Royal Road had opened only fifteen months before. The users were still immersed in leveling up and adventure. Lee Hyun had not seen any other craftsmen."
I can see production skills not being focused on in the first month or two. But that players haven't explored the various production trees after 15 months, that's a bit unlikely.
