Does the prince really need to be a fucked up chimera built from every single revenge-story-antagonist trope, all done in the laziest way possible? At least decide if I am supposed to take him seriously as an evil and ruthless schemer, or laugh at him for being an incompetent cowardly fool.

Great ending question: what kind of Saintess-themed dere does she need to become? Let's consult Homura Akemi!
Great role model, may she become "the Saintess who did nothing wrong".

What if the prince is secretly the smartest man alive?
Now wait hear me out, he not only has exposed multiple forms of corruption within both the government and government adjacent positions like the royal apothecaries. He lowers the country’s national power so their neighbors don’t begin to hold them in contempt. Has Philia sent out of the country as a soft power move that they have this powerful of a saint they don’t even need. Subtly pushing Mia to become a reformer that brings change to the kingdom’s corruption that he blatantly revealed. And he has pushed the king to a weaker position so that it will be easier to ask for assistance in cleaning the house.
In summation I believe that the prince may in fact be the smartest character in the series./s

He's an incompetent, evil, ruthless fool. And I'm sure his character is based on lots of real men who've been born into power or placed there by money hungry schemers. The nobles in the background really have his back.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Mia's revenge. She'll need to develop quickly as a schemer, and it's sad to think about how women's situation is becoming more like in this story in many countries.

Another great find:

Leaving that worm of a prince to die in the forest by "accident" would've been a good solution.
Let's face it. No matter how hard you try, he's that kinda character who'd never acknowledge that he was wrong. He'd never accept his own stupidity to be the cause of misfortune. He'd choose stay in is glass bubble of perceived safety in the city. Despite the encroaching dangers being shoved right in his face.
And should he proven to be wrong, with evidence and every single one says so, he would start playing the vic card, probably blaming Mia and Philia. He's the kind of person that you can only punch in the face.

I'm actually kind of glad to see Mia asking herself that question at the end, if only because she's been unintentionally in Mia's shadow (and now in her shoes) the entire time and now has to think about what kind of Saintess she wants to be. She doesn't want to be a copy of her sister (since she knows her sister's faults and prowess) but Mia was her idol and what she aspired to be like.

Well, regardless I hope the revenge goes well.

The problem is that there are no schemers worth taking seriously. Aside from the king himself, every single person with power in the entire kingdom is so incompetent and impotent that none of them work as antagonists.

Ask yourself this, why does Mia need to try to improve at anything, what are the stakes? She already holds all the cards in her hands and there is no losing scenario for her. No matter what she does, she will get her revenge, because there is nothing the prince can possibly do to "win". He already only lives by her grace.
