I have at least 10% cishet friends. That’s statistically significant. Two are my closest and oldest friends.
It’s not safe to assume.

To actively exclude people based on their sexuality and gender situation and nothing else sounds... ummmmm... familiar.

We tend to find each other, but I don’t think it’s wise to skip over people like that. Some cishets are alright.

Only hanging with members of a group unwillingly...
I can’t even...

Ugh, this makes me hate fujoshis. Go read your BL and leave real people out of your fantasies

As a lesbian fujoshi I 1000% agree with you.

I’m 90% sure my brain craves queer media but yuri is at least as phoney as BL but it’s way easier for me to get past the BS in BL. At least dudes in BL have libidos...
But for the most part BL is very very problematic. Whenever I find something that actually touches on reality in some way I cheer. The bar is so low, though.

I recently read one that looked like it was going to be corny and harmlessly vapid, then it’s suddenly full of serious issues around homophobia, the stress of being in the closet VS coming out in a very heteronormative society...
It was full of surprises.
Not translated yet, sadly.

Another seems to be subversively saying “our tropes suck”. It also has a canon bi character. This stuff should not be mind blowing... gosh my hobby is shit.

My fav has somewhat stressful coming out scenes. “Wow! Wait, wow? What’s wow???”

In short: BL is shit and people shouldn’t apply it to real life.
I still read a fuckton of it on the regs.
I also count Daggerfall among my favourite games. That game is hot garbage in so many ways. I played that _after_ Skyrim. What’s important is that I know it’s shit.

But yeah, real people are real people. I don’t even think two ways about it, other than “I’d like it if more guys were gay, then they wouldn’t sexually harass me at the grocery store”.
That’s a joke, of course... but I hate getting hit on while I’m buying groceries for my WIFE and I.
Again, real people are real people and leave real people out of your stupid shit...

@Thrembs Yeah, as a non-binary queer, I read both, but tend to read BL because it's not as chaste, and I get tired of GL just being gal pals that occasionally maybe kiss. I also find that there are more epic SF/fantasy or historical-ish stories that contain BL rather than GL, which is annoying, but that's what exists currently. Whenever I find a story that contains both BL and GL and/or other queer characters, I feel like I've encountered a rare gem

But completely agree that a lot of BL is hugely problematic, with myths about sex, gender roles, etc that don't necessarily apply to real life people and relationships

And I too, would love if rando guys didn't feel entitled to hit on me when I'm out running errands or living my life

My fav comic is BL that’s largely subversion of tropes. It looks like BL but over time it becomes more clear that it’s more than it seems at first blush.
Legit, late-game spoilers for Sasaki & Miyano:
At one point Miyano gets really frustrated at being treated like he’s fragile, shy, reluctant etc. And he say. “I’m ...not an uke”. I don’t know how much of that is about their relationship in general and how much is... specific. I think it may be specific. There’s context that implies it.
But yeah. It starts out looking one way, then it’s clear it’s just... people. It’s complex.

WRT harassment:
I used to dress _very_ revealingly. That shouldn’t affect whether or not some stranger asks to buy my tights. I’m not ashamed of my body and it’s my right to dress how I want.
If someone straight up wants their tits out it’s no one else’s business

I dress more modestly these days. They stopped but it was largely because of religious reasons.
It’s viewed as important in Conservative Judaism, which is actually hugely progressive (it’s considered wrong to not respect any and all genders and pronoun, no rules apply to specific genders, all queerness is accepted... ) To actually observe is my choice. I’m in favour of people making other choices if they want to.
Plus,my wife like that she’s the only one that gets to see me in a burnout shirt and tight jorts.
