Yeah, I never liked the 'side character who digs into the protagonist's skin out of love(?)' trope. It just shows that their toxicity is not only acceptable, but welcomed. I get guys shooting the shit and exchanging verbal blows every now and then, but if it's one-sided, it's not healthy to the one always receiving the blows.
