"I know this but I don't know why I know this" is a common trope in time loop stories, especially when it concerns future events. The scene I mentioned is fairly reminiscent of those, even more so when you take into account the more dramatic and abstract staging of the art. There're probably no time loops in this story, but for those reasons, it sort of felt like there were for a moment.

Unfortunately, gender essentialism plagues genderbender manga in many forms. I guess that's partly the point of why people write it in the first place though...
