While you're correct, I think the real gooning as you say is happening because Thorfinn is behaving like a spoiled brat now. There is very clearly a war happening now, and he probably knows all too well that the confusion will get everyone, even other Indians who don't want to fight, to engage in the war.
Thorfinn isn’t the cause of the current misfortunes (or “gooning” as some people are saying) and how in the world is Thorfinn acting like a spoiled brat? He’s literally fighting to save his friends and family in this very chapter. With a war actually inevitable now, withdrawing from the island ASAP is literally the most sensible thing to do and will save the most lives regardless of the ideals Thorfinn holds or not (like the Vinland settlers are significantly outnumbered by the allied tribes, they cannot win in an armed conflict).

Also the series hasn’t stopped caring about the “gritty-real life stuff” in regard to warfare. At least no more so than it did in the very first arc, where the literally first chapter had vikings carrying and marching their ships through forests and characters like Thorkell being well, Thorkell.

Also, Cordelia is dead. No way you can take 10 arrows but let's be honest this story stopped caring about the gritty real-life stuff and that combat is fast, deadly, and a waste of life to this... She will survive and like another person said she will fight.
don't worry it's a rubber arrow and she will survive :meguusmug:

Will Thorfinn continue with "Pacifism" and "Then I'll run" or will he see that self-defense to be the answer here?

"just injure them"
and then what? Every crossbow bolt they get in their arm or leg is likely to get infected or break their bone and cripple them and make them unable to use a bow and hunt anymore so you're likely just killing them slowly.
People alive at the time would understand this. Silly modern sensibilities.
People had methods of disinfection so oftentimes the wounds did not cause gangrene and even when they did, loosing an arm is not the same as loosing your life. You may not be able to use a bow, but you can still do many different things in the village and someone else will hunt. And you think breaking a bone is something the body can't recover from? You are missing both life experience and attendance in grade school there

You could survive a lot of pretty horrible wounds if treated right. Herbs, bandages and regular cleaning goes a long way. Though you are right about it crippling them for the foreseeable future and if they were not quick to treat the wounds, they could most definitly start festering. I’m just glad it’s not so cartoonish to have Hild start using boxing glove bolts to avoid this though

Thorfinn really took an arrow to his chest and said: "nah, I'm fine."
