This setting is just painful because I know very well as a bl reader that there are better ways to do the two gay dads who adopt kids route, esp if its being respectful to the lady carrying the baby or adopting an orphan or unwanted child. Esp if you have family, or distant family. Just name your effing niece or nephew as a heir apparent, instead of feeling entitled to someone's womb and assuming it's OK to let someone risk death by childbirth with no actual benefit to them.

It would be different if they had surrogacy protections and better health care or standards for the ladies in this universe but it's all just coming off so so badly.

I like need an update this is getting so involved. Also it’s weird to just take someone’s child. Doesn’t seem like they are that technological to have sperm donors and the like. So is she supposed to sleep with some rando till she gets knocked up and then give her child she carried for 40 weeks away to her brother as if she has nothing to do with the baby? The other side is to be “married” and again same thing but at least be more like a nanny than uninvolved. Although I like this and find it fun this novel universe is a little kooky. But like the MC did I will suspend my disbelief.

@elinertia42 WN implies in this world, noblewomen are mostly babymakers for the gay noble majority. It's very rare for loving male-female relationships to exist in the noble world. (Commoners are mostly heterosexual though.)

@Cynic 1st prince is asshole to Octavia because

he thinks she's trying to takeover his succession rights. Some assassins were caught trying to kill his boyfriend, Syl, and they claimed Octavia sent them. There are also rumours that the king doesn't favour the 2nd prince as an heir, and that Octavia's the likely runner-up for the throne in case 1st prince goes. He thinks she's trying to kill Syl to make him step down, and so hates her for it. He also thinks Klifford and her non-existent boyfriend are her accomplices. So far Octavia is oblivious to 1st prince's suspicions.

Sirius and Octavia would actually be the king's nephew/niece. Their mothers were the king's sisters, but the WN never states who their biological fathers actually were. Sirius's mother died in childbirth and he's never known her. Octavia's mother is still alive but lives in a separate location, Octavia sometimes goes to make friendly visits. Alex is the king's biological son. A marquis's daughter yandere for the king drugged and raped the king, and got pregnant with Alex. She was punished by being confined to her territory forever, and had to give up all her parental rights to Alex.
