It always felt like the implication is much darker, though. I suspect that her not doing well and doing wild things in order to fit in were the beginning, and the real tragedy was much more, let's say, tragic.

Naw. Their other stories are all rather wholesome. They tend to write the scenarios in a rather realistic to life way rather than the contrived conflicts of typical romance.

The pros are that they tend to act like adults and act more honestly which lowers the amount of bullshit overall but you do give up that drama a bit which can be compelling if done right.

Given the oversaturation of normal contrived romance nonsense. Its nice to get a simpler and more realistic romance that they tend to provide.
