Teasing? Check. Gyaru? Check.

Set phasers to follow.

That being said, like @CoolOtamegane brought up, a gyaru being pure is the default in manga which is becoming super damn boring. Like, if a gyaru only looks gyaru but doesn't have any of the other qualities of one that makes them appealing, and that's consistently what mangaka write, then are any of them really unique? I'd pay for a manga where the gyaru is like "I've had like 3 boyfriends" and it's not a big deal but that's literally never going to happen.

I'm tired of "pure" gyaru characters. They're cute and I enjoy them, but they're stale. But Japanese readers have some heart boner for purity, chastity, and virginity and it's super frustrating. While I realize the medium is inherently fantastical, I want more realistic depictions of women. Let them have traits such as having dated before or not being a virgin or not being demure.

I dunno, I love manga but I'm so tired of two-dimensional women, pun unintended.

Anyway, regardless, this manga is cute too.

The reason these "pure" gyaru are even a thing is that these writers have never met one, and if they have, they've only gotten bullied by one. And being the pathetic betas they are, enjoyed it.

The difference generally is that if you want to have a non-"pure" gyaru and go to delinquent manga to get it, then you go the other direction and you get gyaru who are then there to make the normal characters look good because they are portrayed as bitches/sluts/mean/evil/whatever which while being a different type of gyaru is still a negative portrayal of them, much like a pure gyaru is in general a negative portrayal of a gyaru because people feel they need to remove aspects of them to make them appealing to otaku for reasons listed in other comments.

People wanting 3-dimensional gyaru characters are moreso speaking to the symptom of the overall larger problem that manga has in general that they're getting tired of; as @mopchan said, samey 2-dimensional characters. Manga readers in Japan (and writers, since the readers are growing into the writers) all want the same traits in their MCs and love interests and side love interests and mentors and everything in between. Like seriously, I can count on one hand the number of manga (except for seinen, which still has this issue a lot) with romance where the characters aren't virgins. And it's because of the incredibly narrow and unchanging ideas in Japanese society.

So is she actually friendless? We see her on her phone during brakes and don't see her talking with others besides MC. It could also be that all of her friends ended up in another class but let's ignore that possibility

The pure Gyaru character is a recent gap moe phenomenon partly initiated by Oshiete Gyaruko-chan (2014), before Galko most gyaru portrayals were anything but pure if you notice most examples are recent and not older than 2-3 years, pure gyaru are just in vogue, if you seem to be growing bored of this portrayal maybe you should actually look for grittier realism and not read so much wish fulfilment...

To be clear: I contacted MangaShouji and they gave me "okay" to re-typeset chapters.

lol @ a gyaru actually being gyaru being "gritty realism"

Maybe even with the problems we have with manga and stuff like this or the general trend of things in manga, we're capable of enjoying or reading manga that we can still identify has issues or things that annoy us. Every manga you like isn't gonna be 10/10 or else you drop it, unless you read like the 5 perfect manga that exist and nothing else.

I'd rather discuss all the aspects of a manga, including if it does dumb shit or annoying stuff, then just gloss it over and tell people to read other stuff.
