Ushigome is one of few girls in this series with a proper female lead potential. As much as I don't want to admit it, Aoi was the last girl to enter the fray to be worth of the love interest's mantle. Even then, she really has issue of occupying the same niche as Mai, which weakens her presence in plot. But yes, Ushigome could easily be the main girl and actually carry the series.

I mean, her actually reading the moment and not dropping a bombshell on him right before the festival is arguably a major show of her character development. She choked her possessive/jealous impulse and decided to prioritise her friends and their joined project for a moment. It's a very bittersweet way to show how much she has changed as a person since we met her.

He's not traumatized, he's just another dense harem protagonist.

If he were traumatized we'd be seeing him having way more problems interacting with girls than just "oh they told me they liked me and shoved their boobs in my face, they're obviously just being nice" and we'd also be seeing him think stuff like "they're probably just trying to trick me again so I can't trust anything they say!".
