So hardboiled! I missed this samurai dork and her one liners.

Thanks for the translation!

Is it too subtle to have Hein turns to leave before tossing out a casual over the shoulder "who else knows about you coming here?"

Guy will reply "that's none of your concern."

Then Hein goes "is that so..."

Or mangakas all know you have to spoonfeed everything.

Knights: Our first display of teamwork actually managed to give her a good deal of trouble. Maybe we should continue to attack together...or not. After all, she's just a single woman, no need to continue doing that, we can just rush her individually, what could go wrong?

I think the backstab IS part of a 'formation' as well.

It seem to be the 3 upfront getting attention then daggers go for backstab, with expectation to either get a lethal hit from that or at least cause enough distraction on the opponent for the 3 up front to come in to cover for him.
But Shurine evade and counter in the same motion, giving the 3 up front no time to react.

Which cause axe to act out in rage, leading to another easy kill.

In the last part you can see them trying for teamwork again with greatsword tried to keep her attention for spear to attack from blind spot.

So there's certainly coordination, but as Shurine said individually they weren't that strong so she could whittle them down one at a time.

You can tell these guys are used to punching down on people who are less skilled than them. A few cheap victories and it all goes to their head.

That's the funny thing with coordination. All it takes is a sibgle moment for things to fall apart. Move a moment too fast, wait a moment too long, and boom. Like endgame raids in MMOs, ala Final Fantasy 14; one person misses their mark and then suddenly everything falls apart.

And then there's old-fashioned arrogance to top it all off.

Being able to respond and recover when things go wrong is what separates passable FF14 raiders from good ones, in my opinion. People will make mistakes, that's a guarantee. But a mistake doesn't necessarily mean the run is over.

be assassin/spy
have good chances of assassinating target
talk to him instead
engage in a duel
Logic is strong with the maid.
I guess it won't ever satisfy readers to see an assassin efficiently and wordlessly dispatch a target and then get on with their day like they had just gotten back from putting an envelope in the post, but sheesh, I'm with you on this.

Short fight/dispatch doesn't necessitate bad "action". Take for example from Star Wars the final Obi-wan vs Maul fight, which was about 5 seconds long or OPM. All it means is the author lacks imagination.
We need more series like this. Blood, guts, plot, and GL? Sign me up!

No way they really thought that stupid "it was actually a misunderstanding!" plan was going to work

Don't really mind if the maid dies considering she is the sole reason everyone is there in the first place since she's been feeding them info about their whereabouts. Redemption upon last minute regrets never really sit well with me.

The reason the knights showed great teamwork and then disintegrated into breaking their formation is because it was an excellent example of showing that they were highly skilled, but lacked discipline. A unit with high discipline would have ignored any baiting and continued to coordinate attacks until the target was killed. Alas, these idiots completely let their arrogance take over and that was the fight over.

As for Hein, I’m not sure that this was a last minute change of heart. Knowing exactly how strong her master’s bodyguard is, leaking their whereabouts wouldn’t exactly endanger them overly. And now it has lured out both the enemy’s high level infantry AND the one who has been coordinating intelligence for him, without any official record that they were there. This is an excellent opportunity to cripple both his spying and military output and then disappear without a trace and without any official blame. Now THAT is a master strategy!
