Chapter 12 is here! Return of the Nosey Friend!
This might be the best chapter so far. Admittedly, it's also because nothing really happens for most of it. That's usually when the problems pop up in this manga, so if you just focus on the small things it's easier to be endearing (I feel like I said something similar for a previous chapter, in fact). What little plot development we get is once again done a bit poorly. How come the friend is used as a crutch to push the story along so often? He just interferes whenever the author feels like. I wonder if we'll get the reveal (for Midori) that her mom is working with/for Takaharu, and all the related misunderstandings (not that they'll last very long, but still). Maybe they'll wait a bit longer for that and this is just her showing up at a work meeting between the two friends, and it won't out Kyou's actions yet. I am not sure why Takaharu is being secretive, even if his art were to be a bit sensual (but the standards of the characters in this manga are so out there I probably shouldn't question this).
The other bit is that the sketch is likely portraying Kyou, but if that's the case we have to believe the daughter can't recognize her mom. Now, if she was a toddler, MAYBE that could happen, but this seems pretty far fetched (so it's probably what the author is going for, given the track-record). People usually take pictures as well, and I knew from a young age what my mom looked like as a kid, teenager and young adult (maybe this is a point for the "adopted daughter" theory? But even then it sounds like she would have been with Kyou for a long time). Again, this would be less annoying if it wasn't one of the few "narrative developments" that are coming out of this chapter.
I think Midori collecting the drawings and enjoying them as potential surprises with each grocery list is cute, so kudos to the author for coming up with the idea. The fact that she is a gluttonous, daifuku-fueled "guest" is also kind of funny (I guess that comes from Kyou).
Where is this going? Probably nowhere. I need my dose of nonsensical plot points, damn it!
