As a raging homophobic I hate yuri/yaoi in my straight Manga's, but this is good representation as historically Kitsune spirits are said be drawn towards life energy, or ones that emit them aka depressed people or such. In this sense both Mc and teacher fall in this category. No wonder her sister fell for her, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
