what do you mean five years? youngest of my nephews and nieces already have no clue what this "circular thingy with a hole in it" forWe are like 5 years away from kids treating DVDs like VHS tapes. Fuck I'm old![]()
I don’t know if you’ve heard, but yesterday over 1000 titles on MangaDex got DMCA’d. Series published by Shueisha, Kodansha, Square Enix, etc. had all but their most recent chapters pulled. It’s only like 10-20% of the titles here in total, but if you can think of a big series they probably got it.Thanks for the (last) chapter here. Any particular reason why posting on MangaDex would lead to legal issues, aka has something changed?
MD added a close you need to check that basically means you are saying MD you have permission from IP owner to post this said chapter. Legally MD would not be responsible in case of lawsuit but scanlator will be. No one with sense would want this shit. I guess a lot of scanlators are going to jump ship after thisThanks for the (last) chapter here. Any particular reason why posting on MangaDex would lead to legal issues, aka has something changed?
it's 1200+ as of an hour ago and people still find items what were not added to list yet... This might be a biggest case of DMCA takedown yet. Also most of the previous ones were done only to manga in english but this time it's "you cannot post this title here in any language"I don’t know if you’ve heard, but yesterday over 1000 titles on MangaDex got DMCA’d. This series is published by Shogakukan, which was one of the publishers whose series were in the DMCA. So while we were spared now, it can definitely happen again.
honestly, even living in russia and with how things are for a foreseeable future, I would not check thisView attachment 22032

Probably in another 5-6 years, technology without touchpads and digital format will be perceived as tube TVs and analog technologies today. We are like 5 years away from kids treating DVDs like VHS tapes. Fuck I'm old![]()
Yeah, it’s that part that gets me. MangaDex is no stranger to DMCAs - early on I think Viz told them not to have One Piece, MHA, Demon Slayer, OPM, Act-Age, and Househusband scans, and they agreed - but then you could just excuse that because Manga Plus was right there. But now? They pulled down every series they could, including titles that have no official English translation. Even series that were only like two volumes long that nobody would care to license.it's 1200+ as of an hour ago and people still find items what were not added to list yet... It's always a matter of exerting power where they can reach, the low-hanging fruit. Like a cop pulling over the slowest person speeding since it's too much trouble to pull over the other people driving at even higher speeds. Like doing something makes it feel like they are making progress in their fight against piracy which will never end, or showing shareholders that they're doing something for the bottom dollar.Yeah, it’s that part that gets me. I honestly don’t know what their goal is. At least MangaDex had standards - no official scans, links to where you can buy the official releases - but now if someone wants to read a title they’ll just go to mangasee123.com to get aggregate scans. It’ll hit them even more.
So, in the past, any series that got licensed stopped being fan published here?Yeah, it’s that part that gets me. no, but generally the only time MD got a DMCA was for a series that was licensedSo, in the past, any series that got licensed stopped being fan published here?
It's just that in the past one of the manga that I read was apparently dropped by the translator after the English localization got to the fan translation.no, but generally the only time MD got a DMCA was for a series that was licensed
yeah, scanlators usually moved away on their own. some didn't. for most of the time all this was not the problem as most western publishers either did not give a shit, or even saw some good in it (at least some official translations are eerily alike to fan ones). This time it a jap-korean coop of big publishers on the crusade against the thing they have no idea about. So, in the past, any series that got licensed stopped being fan published here?
asians have a very old-school approach to copyright. It is not money they care about, they'd happily lose money if it meant cracking on piracy for good. Can't do anything about these types except wait for them to die out.yeah, scanlators usually moved away on their own. some didn't. for most of the time all this was not the problem as most western publishers either did not give a shit, or even saw some good in it (at least some official translations are eerily alike to fan ones). Its just the blanket "anything unofficial is bad" with no nuance take that all Japanese companies have.Nintendo will even sue non-profit fan projects that promote their brand.I honestly don’t know what their goal is.
