Because in their mind, "world's safety = self survival".

Aka., they believe that only they can protect the world and so have the right to do anything to protect their own position & self-interest.
In there mind, they think that as long as they are in power everything would go perfectly and in order, and this the world would be kept safe.

They also believe that anything that challenges their power and position has to be removed, because if they lose power, the world would be destroyed.

Well, while Angelica was called a War Goddess, she wasn't a God per say.
