If this had the tragedy tag, I’d agree with the other commenters on this thread about the theory that the world is gonna fuck over the main cast like Made in Abyss.

Only real way I can kinda see it happening here is if they kill off the dude who just saved Arwyn after they get kinda get close to each other and just absolutely destroy any sense of peace she had left.

If you look at that speech bubble it has little speech direction arrows on both sides, so I think you're supposed to read it like you mentioned:
"...do you hate baths?"
"No!"
"But you know? (also both sides)"
"No! (second time around)"
Meaning that all she was replying with was a "No!" regardless of the question. At least that's my interpretation of it.
