That poor Zamel guy chose a dumbass for his envoy. Essentially undermined his faction by pissing everyone off, going as far as breaking the magic guild's own rules. Even if he succeeded in getting the lord to Zamel, it would just cause a dispute in the guild. They would have to answer for all the rules they broke and people they wronged and angered. They would eventually have to give it back (it doesn't help that the opposing faction is led by a royal, so the kingdom has direct influence on the guild) and compensate the aggrieved parties. Plus possibly lose internal support, since I doubt all the members of the Zamel faction would approve of such behavior.
