This made me look up whether domestic violence was a crime in Japan or not because it's real strange to see a divorce order for DV and no criminal charges. Apparently it has been rising for the last 22 years and the majority of victims are in their 20s or younger. One study found that by age 49 19% of women who have had partners would experience it.

Maybe the translator can chime in here but were there any additional details about the divorce in the paper? I assume this isn't a Divorce by Agreement because it would be insane for anybody to be accused of domestic violence that they did not commit and went "yeah i'll just accept that as my reputation from here on out." If it wasn't by agreement then it would enter the court system where a judge should've been involved for either Mediation or Judgment. That should mean there would be a standard of evidence required for this to be labeled as domestic violence. Japanese court uses a higher standard than preponderance of the evidence that US civil court uses. That should mean that one vague record of him raising his voice one time should not be enough to pass the bar.

idk about japan, but i know that DV charges in my country do not specificaly mean that u beat ur partner black and blue. it could also be that u live in genuin fear that he or she will hurt you. so in this case her video of him getting mad are pretty solid evidence if you claim is he threatens you

The sad truth is a lot of both. A lot fear for their lives to bring it up but you also have a lot that use it as justification for divorce for whatever means.

I like the manga based on this first chapter, I like both characters. Looking forward to seeing it. I think the fact that FMC was a victom of abuse in the past was tough to see but a good device to make the fact that she really was impacted by his presence believable (compared to 'he was nice to me once' slop). Even if it's a trauma bonding, I hope they can find a way to move on together. Some of the best ways of finding peace are through time and healing with new memories, even if the pain never fully goes away.

The most sus is that she forbad him from talking to her friends and family. Likely she’s lying to her family and friends, or her family and friends might be in on it and afraid of them for burping out the truth.

Years ago one of my cousins failed to keep a handle on friends and family in the leadup to her divorce. Whatever she was cooking up fell apart since everyone had long heard quite a few stories about 'mommy's friend' from her 2nd son. The house was sold 50/50.

I'm actually trying to suss out the age gap; he might be a couple years older, but he's also described as a big dude; they could be roughly equal in age, and reuniting after some time apart. (She's not in any uniform and I didn't see any in a closet or something so they could both be out of high school at this point.)
If it is age gap that's fine too--but it would be neat to see them both be adults in this situation, personally.

In the first flashback panel it shows them as kids and they look to be a similar size so I'm thinking there's not much of an age gap and he's just a big guy.
