The word itself is fine, the problem gooner doesn't exactly match most situations, first a character that should not even know the word in that sense if I pretend this is not Japan, and the other is that it feels like it matches more when talking about someone being thirsty for anime girls or video game characters if not straight up porn addict, but to be the same as pervert, not really. Like if there's two male friends and of them calls him gooner for playing a gacha or something now that feels fitting even if it's not the exactly word being used. You know much as I'm super grateful to translators for all the work they put into translating series, I do wish they'd avoid using slang terms like 'gooner'.. it just doesn't feel right when read in context for a japanese manga![]()
It is a shock but if the original mangaka is slipping Japanese slang that is used in a similar I could see it as justified. I think it's to easy to forget that dumb internet slang isn't unique to english. You know much as I'm super grateful to translators for all the work they put into translating series, I do wish they'd avoid using slang terms like 'gooner'.. it just doesn't feel right when read in context for a japanese manga![]()
