P.s. You can slam me with as many as you like, my point wasn't being overly edgy (not entirely at least), but that she may have been saved there, but had absolutely no plan how to survive the next day, or even the next hour, after clearly making it onto the guild's hitlist, so the happy attitude she ended this chapter with was anything but warranted.

Personally, I did get what you were trying to say from the start.

She has no equipment, one eye missing, no money, no protection (from other people), no proper planning for the future and dragging around a child. The only reason she survived this encounter (and didn't leave the child to her own fate) was because Harten intervened. And it's not like MC is going to stick around to protect her. Rogue guild guy could just as easily pretend to leave her alone until Harten fucks off somewhere, then turn around and finish the job.

Some people are just sensitive, whiny bitches. Apparently you got to spoon-feed them your thoughts, otherwise they sperg out.

Personally, I did get what you were trying to say from the start.

There's nothing insightful about pointing out she's fucked. The story is telling us she's fucked, even she is telling us she knows she's fucked in multiple different ways. Her outwardly positive attitude at the end is just her putting on a brave face for the kid. If it wasn't for the kid, she might have skipped town already. But then, if it wasn't for the kid, she might also have broken down a lot earlier and gotten killed before she made it back to town.

That she managed to survive to get saved by Harten a second time is an accomplishment in itself. This is grimdark fantasy land, where no good deed goes unpunished.

The Thief Guild leader is an asshole but he's a professional. He knew instantly he would die to Harten if he fucked around from just reading Harten's body language. Which is even more frightening knowing that the Guild Leader is probably a speedster and knows he couldn't keep up even in his area of expertise.

i've been taken out of immersion in other stories with clothing choices and architecture that is too obviously past even the renaissance so this isn't anything new; just pray the story is good enough that this doesn't matter as much

if you want to help someone, you need the remove the root of the problem altogether, because otherwise the oppressor just comes with retribution once you are gone and vents his anger on the victim even worth than before. Cannot blame Harten because he was just going on his business and was directly asked for help, but if you going to intervene - be ready to bear consequences of your actions

Not really Harten's job to fix her problem for her. If he kills Rex here, the rest of the Rogue's guild will come after him. For the sake of convenience, let's say Harten can easily solo the guild. So, he goes and destroys the guild by himself. Congrats. The guild was most likely a necessary guild to help keep the monsters at bay and you just fucked up the city's chances of survival. Rizrett isn't even an acquaintance of his. So, there's no good reason for Harten to do more than he did.

As for Rex, if he's gonna go after Harten, then he also should be ready to bear the consequences of the results. Harten can easily kill him and his cronies, and Rex knows that. But since Harten is just a passerby and has shown that he's not really associated with Rizrett, there's no good reason or benefit for Rex to ever pick that fight with him. Whether Rex continues to go after the girl or not, it's still really not Harten's problem.

Harten has done all that a stranger should be expected of. He has given her a chance at survival when she had none. The next course of action is her responsibility, not his. If she's smart, she should quickly find someone to take care of the kid (like the church or something), and gtfo out of town asap or find protection from an organization while she has the chance.
