"Communication" is a 1st level spell in a no-magic setting that also requires concentration to persist/take effect into the next round of combat.

It sucks that everyone around me has a high Will save and they keep resisting it whenever I cast that spell.

Seems like this dude might be the person who destroyed the secret base, seeing how he destroyed what was in the home they were rebuilding together. Probably family, a brother or something, seeing how casual he is with her and they both have seemingly same colored hair. The parallels are way too obvious, with the secret base they had together being destroyed and the old home they're rebuilding together. Dunno why though the FMC couldn't just outright tell the MC it wasn't her, I'll never understand that mentality that mangakas write, where the characters for no fucking real reason decide to withhold information and have the character take on all the blame because they feel "guilty." Every time, there's a constant trope of gutless inaction in manga, and similar cuck-esque energy. Is that just an actual thing in Japan where people are like that, or is this more a manga trope that's just been a thing for a while and everyone just uses the same bullshit tropes?

at least when it comes to Kazukage it makes sense that he'd simply run away instead of asking clarifying questions or wait for a complete answer.

but I do think that the extent to which the author's using "I disengage from conversation" as the default to keep the story suppressed risks becoming a crutch if things are simply left unspoken for too much longer. Even if it's only chapter 6, there's enough stuff in play that the Leads could actually talk, rectify the misunderstandings and miscommunication between them and become a unified pair, and still have plenty of external points of tension and drama to create an interesting narrative.

Having them fighting themselves, one another, and the world around them is a bit too much, I think. Kazukage is already beaten down as a person, clearly since childhood--as it stands, he arguably needs more than simply "Karen being present" to not run away completely, so hopefully the next chapter actually sees them talk and sort all of this out.

Why do so many authors think that good drama is when an issue crops up that could be easily solved by talking, but the characters refuse to talk about it?

Another manga for the big pile of "all the problems would be solved if the characters would just say what's on their minds instead of dancing around it."

I get that he has an excuse because he's coming off a divorce where his ex lied and manipulated the situation to her own advantage and he has trust issues, but there's no reason she can't just say what she needs to, or explain what happened, or stand up for herself instead of accepting that he's just going to passively assume a bunch of things and act on it.

Would this series have any legs if it was just "cute domestic rom-com between age gap childhood friends where he's clueless about how she feels?" probably not. Though those stories can often go on for an obscene amount of time by milking the one joke and stalling the one major conflict resolution.

But presenting a constant shifting array of issues that all boil down to them not being honest only makes the story annoying. and I think the only reason that it's probably more annoying to us than it is to the domestic audience is that Japanese society is built on the idea of not sharing what you really think to an excessive and unhealthy extreme. They act like honne and tatame or whatever the words are for inner/outer voice/thoughts are this uniquely Japanese social construct, but everywhere in the world recognizes that there is value in not constantly blurting out your true feelings all the time with no filter or consideration. The thing that is uniquely Japanese is that they do it so excessively and so self-sacrificingly that they're willing to torpedo interpersonal relationships by the simple refusal to ever admit there's an issue that needs addressing. Or at least it would torpedo those relationships if the layers of non-confrontational social avoidance that "pretending there is no issue and the relationship isn't irreparably broken" wasn't just another layer of avoidance in and of itself.

Yeah, I know they want to add "drama" to this series to give it layers, but it's real idiot ball writing and it doesn't make sense or feel good to read. Honestly, they should've just gone without the "drama" if they can't do it right.

I wonder if the editorial team meddled, or if the author really just has bad ideas that the editorial team didn't push back on hard enough. Either way, it's a terrible development to an already mediocre manga.

In all likelyhood, it's her brother, the MO of the mysterious person who ruined their treehouse withour a tree back then and the MO of this guy are exactly the same, and it is unlikely the girl would've willingly kept someone like that in her life since early childhood all the way into her adult life if he wasn't a relative

Yeah it's her time-traveling son from the future who's the child of her and Kazukage, and he hates his parents so he's wrecking their shit to prevent himself from being born.

Just kidding, I wish this were a mind-bending manga like this.
