The fabled academic question is finally here.

QoTD 219: 3x-71 =-2(5x+1). Can you find the value of x?

3x - 71 = -2(5x + 1) / distribute the right side
3x - 71 = -10x - 2 / add 2 to both sides to eliminate the -2 on the right
3x - 69 = -10x / subtract 3x from both sides to get the variable isolated on one side of the equation
-69 = -13x / multiply both sides by -1 to eliminate the negative signs
69 = 13x / divide both sides by 13 to remove the coefficient of the variable
69/13 = x
Yes. Math is fun. Posting the steps sucks, so I'm only doing a single intermediate step.
3x + 10x = -2 + 71
x=69/13 OR 5 4/13
______
OR x = 5.307962 repeating.
I miss doing random math.
wow boomer is actually smart...
I feel dum now.
I love math, I just hate algebra. Mf why should I imagine a nonexistent number

(3x^5 - 2y^5 + 27) = (2y^8 - x + 63)
It's a quintic equation for terms of x, and hence according to Abel-Ruffini Theorem, we can't Isolate terms of X. Until...

See, the equation of x is in the form of
x^5 + x - a
This is the Bring-Jerrard form, and in this form, we can apply Bring radical to kinda find the answer, where
u = BR(-3^(1/4)*C) = 0

we can manipulate x to be this form, to find

x = 3^(-1/4) * BR(-3^1/4 * (2y^8 + 2y^5 + 36))

Yeah, it looks ugly, but we can do Taylor Expansion of it, which will look like a polynomial
x = 1.62 + 0.02y^5 + 0.02y^8 and so on

Once upon a time, there was a being who had immense power strong enough to bring the world to the brink of collapse. Unfortunately, their story isn't relevant to today's question. :nyoron:

QoTD 220: Can you do this crossword puzzle for me? Thanks
Wait, are the squares actually matched with the clues or not? I tried to do it in an editing software, and some of the square spaces don't match the words I assume are what go there.
