It's not skin, it's cloth. This is why he's curious about it since a mandragora usually wouldn't be wearing anything.Lol, he trying to peel the skin of bigboobs mandragora, btw, this guy is pervert 😂
I choose to believe that reincarnating as a vegetable has reshaped her behaviour. As a mandragora, she's spent most of her life chilling while buried in the ground. According to this chapter, she was buried a hundred years ago by the demon sorcerer and who knows when she got her sense of self. In the first chapter, her first instinct after getting unrooted was just to bury herself again (even though she had considered it boring). Why is MC so god damn passive, not being able to speak is not an excuse here, this is god damn Japanese male lead levels of passive.
Well, they're basically elves, without the pointy ears. Long life, lots of magic power, probably don't reproduce much and never had large numbers. The demons obviously experimented themselves into extinction. If there's only one left, it's only a matter of time before there will be none.
It's always been his intention to find other members of his race or find a way to reproduce, and for some odd reason he thinks that a mandragora's monster evolution has potential to perhaps bring back demons.Yooo blud got that special kinda mind
He really went there
He basically acts like he owns the place wherever he is... Unfortunately, since he's powerful and has outlived anyone who raised him, he's valuable enough to the kingdom that they always spoil him, and that doesn't really help to build a good personality. This guy is an asshole.
he is looking a mama! Can't blame him tbh, he's just jaded from the countless number of people trying to scam him telling him that they are demons in his 500 years of life. Guy was just lonely, he gets cuter and more tsundere later on.
it wasn't because of experiments but due to mutual destruction in a war with the dragons that the demons are gone. The experiment he's doing is an attempt to replicate the initial generation of demons in the past. For it to work, powerful and intelligent monsters will have to be able to reproduce with humans to make new 1st generation demons. That's why he wants to know. As for the language, demons write in Japanese, that's why. She writes better than him so he interprets that as her being an older, properly raised demon who learned the language properly, as his Japanese is a little rough since there wasn't anyone particularly proficient to teach him.Well, with the knight and the sorcerer in the same room, the heat is off of her; she can now continue to remain an NPC while events just unfold around her. XD

See chapter 8.1, page 3; she created a cloth for her mandragora familiars to colour-code them and, most importantly, to prevent them from absorbing the villagers who might want to touch their bodies. She also covers herself in the same type of plant-based cloth to allow her to touch others safely.

It's possible that the dragon of calamity that destroyed them was the result of their experiments, but this sorcerer at least has been alive and experimenting for 500 years so it doesn't really seem to be causing many casualties.
But honestly, if a dragon destroyed them all, then that means that they at best only controlled a single town and that none of them ever left it so I'd say that they were already well on their way to extinction before the dragon struck.
With all that said, if you meant that demons were experimenting by sticking their reproductive organs into dangerous creatures like mandragoras to see if they can reproduce with them... That, considering a mandragora's absorption capability, is definitely a way to ensure demons are going extinct.
Or perhaps you just mean that he stays in a lab too much instead of touching grass.

He's not wrong; she's been able to reproduce what she's been consuming (eyes and such) to some degree. She seems satisfied enough with how she currently looks, but if she ever decides to pursue even further evolution to actually acquire the body of a human or demon or beastman, well she might be able to though she'd probably need to consume some flesh or perhaps blood. (On a separate note, she's thought of trying to cover her current vocal, but not creating a separate set. I wonder if that would work to talk without using her curse. Though she clearly prefers not to talk. XD)
With that said, he must have attempted reproduction with humans, and failed (which I find strange since they just seem to be a specific race of humans) which would be why he's switched over to trying to produce new demons. This guy can't possibly still be a virgin at his age, right? And there must have been some humans who advised him to just try it out with other humans since they look quite alike.
Though, for someone who has lived for 500 years, who should know that mandragoras are plant monsters (with reproduction that likely involves their flower), I'm not really sure why he thinks it would even be remotely possible to reproduce with a mandragora that is vaguely shaped like a woman.
He basically acts like he owns the place wherever he is... Unfortunately, since he's powerful and has outlived anyone who raised him, he's valuable enough to the kingdom that they always spoil him, and that doesn't really help to build a good personality.
He doesn't seem to be cruel or have any truly evil trait, so all things considered he probably turned out okay.
For all of the probing he's doing with the mandragoras, he acknowledges they're not his and he's not willing to be a thief and take them away for his experiments.
What's interesting to me is that when he appraises it, and realises that she's vastly more powerful than he is in terms of mana, he stays calm. I'd expect someone who abuses his power to be shocked since they'd now be in a situation where they could potentially be on the receiving end. He doesn't seem to register that she could be a threat nor that his behaviour could be seen as rude by herself; he probably doesn't think that anything he's doing is strange nor rude. (And I wonder why he was testing her in a different script than Japanese in the previous chapter).
IIRC, mandragoras in this setting are hardwired cowards. Why is MC so god damn passive, not being able to speak is not an excuse here, this is god damn Japanese male lead levels of passive.
Oh, so demons are descendants of monsters and humans? If that were the case, wouldn't demons also be compatible with humans? It seems to me that he could just father new demons with humans.it wasn't because of experiments but due to mutual destruction in a war with the dragons that the demons are gone. I meant all of it! Only interested in magical experiments, some of them dangerous. No time for courtship. It's possible that the dragon of calamity that destroyed them was the result of their experiments, but this sorcerer at least has been alive and experimenting for 500 years so it doesn't really seem to be causing many casualties.

Unsure if I should mark as a spoiler or not but in the novel only female demons can give birth to demons. It was described that it needed magic in the wombOh, so demons are descendants of monsters and humans? If that were the case, wouldn't demons also be compatible with humans? It seems to me that he could just father new demons with humans.
For the language, I was referring to chapter 10.1, page 14; he replies with characters that are not Japanese so she doesn't understand it. We have not yet been given any context as to why he did that; I guess in a later chapter he'll reveal it. All we're told about Japanese was that it 's an ancient script that was already dying out when he was a child and that's an odd way of referring to a language that would be used by demons before their extinction. If it was the demon's language, I would have expected him to state plainly that it was demon script instead of ancient script. So I assumed that Japanese has the same status in that world as Latin has in ours, and that it wasn't specific to demons.
But if you have knowledge from the novel that Japanese is indeed demon script, then I guess that that scene was depicted a bit oddly. I guess he was testing to see if he knew a more recent, human script, and could only conclude from her lack of knowledge of it that she was exceedingly reclusive.
