Oohhhh.... so Houjou actually interacted with MC back in middle school. No wonder she wants to get close to him so badly. and it looks like a big brother alliance has already formed to support MC and Houjou :dogkek:

thank you for translation
I love that scene where Hojou says he was the topic of conversation, perfectly clears any remaining doubt and says so much.

Its literally the title of the series but inverted with Hojou getting close to big bro in order to learn more about little bro. Its such good thematic writing how the only way we've seen that works to get close to big bro was to aim for the lil'bro instead and not be interested in him.

All the other girls were doomed to fail from the start

It's just him feel guilty for not opening up and believe in Houjou for so long and think it cause her problem because she attempt to get close to him but he pushed her away due to his paranoid about him being used to get close to his brother like other girls.
I mean, yes, that's what is happening with Youta. It's still a crazy stretch to try and relate that to Cinderella, or even the weird adaptation we get a glimpse of here.

It makes more sense for the step sisters in the play to represent aspects of Youta's psyche than it reflecting his relationship with Honjou as is suggested here. It feels like the author wanted the play to spark a realization in Youta and they wrote that in without bothering to make it make sense.

Okayish drama, nice conclusion but still think author had a dozen actually organic and better ways to do it.

"You‘re forgiven“ gave me the ick, dunno if that‘s a translation thing tho and cba looking it up.
What is there to forgive exactly? Having actual trauma? The bro doing nothing and then spying on them? Tohno reacting appropriately to her acting weird?
It felt strange for him to apologize for having trauma and responding in ways he’s been taught are correct for literally his entire life. It isn’t something that happened now and then, it happened 100% of the time. His brain is wired to expect disappointment and rejection from every girl his age.

She’s not the first girl to make him think “maybe it’s different this time“, she’s just the first where it was actually true.
It's understandable for trauma to cause behaviors that hurt others. You know the expression: hurt people hurt people.

Trauma explains certain behaviors. It doesn't automatically excuse them.

It's a sign of growth that Youta reflected on his actions, recognized that he was hurting a friend, and wanted to apologize.

There isn't anything to forgive, that's true. But her forgiveness isn't the actual point of Hojo's response. She could tell Tohno all day and into the night that he did nothing wrong, that his reactions were understandable and even justified because of all of the trauma he had been put through. But that doesn't erase the guilt he's feeling.

That's why she cut him off and told him he's forgiven; because sometimes, whether it's warranted or not, people feel the need to apologize even if their actions were justified. And in those situations, having their apology accepted can be more validating and helpful than trying to convince them they don't need to apologize in the first place.

That was the standout for me, I really liked how it paralleled the main theme of the story.

I do wonder if it means the series is coming to it's natural conclusion soon, though I would like it to continue longer (just to see more adorable side of these two goobers once they actually start dating)

ah, so it's "meeting at entrance exams where MC showed kindness but completely forgot about it later" trope. I see, I see

If only our girl knew Hojou and her little brother in law were helping with the play and close to Reiya all that time...
Also, I was sure that Yukimura would be playing Cinderella somehow. At least Hasegawa didn't get to see that. She has no idea what kind of final boss is waiting for her before she can achieve her greatest objective.

Now for the story, I wonder if we'll keep the focus on our duo exploring the festival together or if since the main conflict was mostly solved, the focus will shift to Reiya exploring his conflict with the prince persona and what he really wants to do with his backstage work.
Also, I want Reiya to start bothering Youta like asking him to invite Hojou to a family barbecue or his birthday so she can meet his parents (+ Yukimura).

Youta's trauma is not her responsibility though. Just because something can explain the reaction doesn't mean it can excuse it. You know how people with neurodivervence will sometimes say things like "I have [x], that's just how I am!" and it bothers you? Youta's trauma is his burden, but it's also his responsibility to manage how he handles that burden with regards to others. His trauma made him keep Houjo at a distance and occasionally lash out at her because he believed her insincere. Just because she's the bigger person to not hold that against him doesn't mean that wasn't unkind of him to do.

I would have preferred for him to thank her for being patient and not giving up on him, rather than the apology for causing her trouble.

The vibe that he did something he should be ashamed of just didn’t hit right for me. Gratitude would have fit better.

I guess this is a culture difference though. Stoic Japanese people aren’t allowed to cause trouble no matter what they are dealing with right? Who needs therapy for lifelong trauma when you can just have one conversation and fix it all yourself right?
