It's not so much about liking the side couples or not, the issue is that for some reason all of the side characters end up as couples. A lot of yuri manga are plagued with this problem and most of them would be better off without it. Are we genuinely supposed to believe somehow all of them...

It's not really about quality of the writing, but popularity and tailoring your story towards what sells. Just look at Fairy Tail, Black Clover or any other generic garbage battle shonen. Takahiro did well with Akame and thought he could just do the same thing again, which obviously didn't work...

There's basically zero chance of her losing. After Hinowa flopped, Takahiro figured out killing off the "good guys" more often than not doesn't work so he moved to the classic battle shonen (with a shitload of ecchi) with Mato slave and this.
