Yeah, WN refers to Meraru as a boy, and so does the manga - in chapter 78 where Meraru shows up, he's referred to as a boy on the first page. Think the translator just...forgot. Meraru's been mostly referred to by name or as a spirit so probably easy to forget in Japanese.

Chapter 111 of the webnovel, idk anything about the light novel since that one seems to only have gotten 2 volumes and stopped releasing.

Started reading the web novel since I decided I wanted some Japanese reading practice, it was probably mentioned in the manga too, but Yuuta needed a D rank in magic to contract with Bell, and I assume that's the same for the other small spirits. And yeah, for Yuuta, the minimum was B rank magic...
