Secondly I don't think your use of fave is bad, I personally would have chosen oshi. I personally have never encountered someone using fave, so I would file it away under archaic/esoteric slang and thanks to idol culture coming to the west...

I don't think that should be the goal of translation. That is the job of localisation. Translation should try to translate what it can and what it can't translate should be explained...
